Are you a disabled person who has experienced rehabilitation? Do you have a story to tell? Take part in a creative writing workshop as part of a research project at UEA!
My name is Harriet Cooper and I’m doing research at the University of East Anglia into disabled people’s experiences of rehabilitation for a physical or sensory impairment. My project is called ‘Rights-based Rehabilitation’. I want to understand how disabled people can be involved in shaping rehabilitation services. I have had personal experience of rehabilitation.
For this part of my research, I am inviting participants to take part in a writing workshop followed by a meeting in which we will share our writing with each other. Participants will have the opportunity to write about their rehabilitation in a creative and/or fictionalised form and to share their writing with the group, if they wish.
There’s no need to have any previous experience of creative writing, and there will be no expectations about ‘right and wrong ways’ to write. If writing is difficult for you, we can make adjustments to enable you to participate. If you decide after the first meeting that you are unsure about sharing your writing with the group, there is no obligation to attend the second meeting. You can withdraw from the research at any point.
Participants who take part in both groups will receive a £10 gift voucher as a thank you for their time. In some instances it may be possible to refund travel expenses – please contact Harriet for more information.
The sessions will take place in an accessible venue at the University of East Anglia on:
Thursday 7th March 2019, 12 noon til 2pm
Thursday 28th March 2019, 11am til 1pm
Tea, coffee and light refreshments (including sandwiches) will be provided.
You would need to be available on both dates to take part.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact Harriet for an informal conversation about what is involved. Harriet needs to know in advance if you are planning to attend, so that she can check that you are eligible to participate and send you a participant information sheet.
