Course Overview
The MSc Investment and Financial Management course is proud to be an accredited Academic Partner with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), an accredited Education Partner with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), a participant of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Higher Education Alignment arrangement, and a member of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Programme. These links provide motivation to students to work towards professional units or qualifications such as the Financial Risk Manager (FRM), the CISI Introduction to Securities & Investment L3, the CII R02 Investment Principles and Risk, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
The main aim of this course is to prepare you to make a difference in the global corporate and financial sector.
You’ll be someone who is deeply ambitious and who aspires to rise to the top in investment and finance. You’ll gain the skills and confidence to go into any number of roles, including manager, business analyst, trader, broker, market specialist or accountant. We also welcome students with family businesses who are looking to advance. Many of our students have studied or worked in finance abroad and are looking for the edge that studying in the UK will bring.

This is an intense and challenging course and you can expect to develop a great deal over your year with us. You will discover the intellectual and practical skills required for a successful career. You’ll also be challenged to become an independent thinker capable of questioning conventional wisdom and pushing boundaries. The course is applied in nature and highly practical.
You will study the international market, learning the latest practices and studying the latest trends. You’ll discover how to combine theory and practice, how to draw on different data sets and databases, and how analyse and compare data in order to make effective financial decisions. You’ll explore the new challenges facing corporations are today, analysing solutions and proposing answers of your own. And you’ll learn how to make the best use of new technologies. Increasingly employers are looking for candidates with investment and financial management expertise, including environmental and social expertise. On this course you will learn to ask questions such as: How can corporations contribute to the youth of a country? And how can companies grow without sacrificing the environment? You’ll explore the impact of social and environmental issues on the future of corporations. You’ll learn how to look beyond profit as a key motivator in business. And you’ll cultivate the skills required to work with corporations that care about social and environmental concerns.
Throughout the course you’ll approach your subject from an international perspective. This international focus means you can take insights from one region and apply them to another. For example, you could take insights from a British case study and apply to a Chinese business, and vice versa. You’ll also learn first-hand how to thrive in an international environment, by working alongside students from all over the world, including the EU, Asia, Africa and America.
As you progress you will be encouraged to change the way you think and approach problems. You’ll discover how to look at issues from different points of view. And you’ll graduate as an independent thinker able to come up with your own ideas and debate and defend them.
In addition to your Master’s qualification, you’ll have the chance to gain valuable professional qualifications from Thomson Reuters at no extra cost, including Eikon and Datastream. You’ll be able to apply for scholarships to the FRM Part 1 exam, the CISI Introduction to Securities & Investment L3 exam, and the CFA exam every year. You will also be offered an academic rate to study for CII qualifications such as the CII R02 Investment Principles and Risk exam based upon your interest.
Accreditations
The MSc Investment and Financial Management degree has been accepted into the University Affiliation Program of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute; providing you with scholarship opportunities to sit the CFA Program examinations. The MSc is also an accredited Academic Partner with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP); providing you with opportunities to sit the FRM Part 1 examination with scholarship.
The programme is part of the CISI Education Partner accreditation of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI); providing you with scholarship opportunities to sit a number of their professional examinations and obtain student membership.
This MSc is also a participant of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Higher Education Alignment arrangement, which enables students who are looking to develop a career in the insurance and personal finance profession to undertake the CII qualifications at academic rate with free membership.
Entry Requirements

- Bachelors degree - 2.2 or equivalent
- Degree Subject
- Any subject area - excluding Business-related degrees. Degrees in dance, drama, music, sport, art, and art and design will be considered on a case by case basis and are reviewed closely for their academic content.
- English Foreign Language
We welcome applications from students whose first language is not English. To ensure such students benefit from postgraduate study, we require evidence of proficiency in English. Our usual entry requirements are as follows:

IELTS: 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in only two components with 6.0 in the others)

PTE (Pearson): 64 (minimum 59 in only two components with 64 in the others)
Test dates should be within two years of the course start date.

Additional Information or Requirements
This MSc course is open to all students who meet the entry requirements but it is primarily aimed at students who have not previously studied a business-related degree, have limited business knowledge from their undergraduate degree, or have a general business degree and would like to now specialise. If you have a business degree, please check the course modules and content carefully to ensure the programme meets your needs and future career aspirations and requirements Alternatively, please consider one of our Professional courses which may be more suitable.

Employability
After the Course
You will graduate ready to launch a highly successful career in investment and finance, in the UK and beyond.
You could go on to work for investment and commercial banks, insurance companies, hedge, mutual or pension funds, brokers, rating agencies, venture capitalists and regulatory bodies. You might work as a financial manager, treasurer, capital budget analyst, credit manager or investor relations specialist. Or you might go on to work as a data analyst, advisor or systems developer at a consultancy firm.
You might go straight into a junior or senior role. Either way this course is a common path to senior positions such as a head of department roles. The international flavour of the course means you’ll be well placed to go on to an international career, working for international companies and multinational corporations.
Alternatively, you might decide to continue your studies with a PhD if you could demonstrate your research skills and potential..
