My UEA Story: Jessica

PHILOSOPHY

I studied Philosophy.

I work as an emotional well-being lead in a special educational needs school.

Today I led a group of students in discussing feelings; we talked about how all feelings are normal, how they’re not good or bad and how people aren’t good or bad for having them. We looked at how thoughts are just thoughts and that they’re separate from who we are. Later I discussed a safeguarding concern regarding potential emotional abuse with colleagues. I watered the garden and did hand prints with some of our students that are in local authority care. I came to my career through an interest in social justice and consciously decided that supporting the most vulnerable people in society was the best thing to do, based on Rawl’s maxi-min theory.
