WHY CHOOSE AUM?

The Autonomous University of Madrid is commonly known by its Spanish initials UAM or as "la Autónoma". UAM is a Spanish public university established in 1968 and located in Cantoblanco. Throughout its history, UAM has been one of Spain's most prominent higher education institutions, being ranked first amongst Spanish universities by The Times Higher Education Supplement. The Autonomous University of Madrid has an active student body, with over a hundred student societies covering activities ranging from student unionism to theatre and music. The campus is located about a 40 minute train ride from Madrid (depending on where in the city you live) and the campus is very remote. Although there is accommodation for international students on campus, the facilities in the area are limited (supermarkets etc). It is worth considering whether you would prefer to be on campus or to live in the city and commute to the university.

UAM is located outside Madrid and the nearest urban area is Alcobendas - this is the closest place to shop and eat. The train station on the UAM campus takes you into Madrid within 60 minutes and runs regularly. In Madrid, you can explore museums, galleries, sporting venues and restaurants. UAM can either offer the campus experience or the city living experience depending on which suits you. Madrid is a vibrant, busy city with something for everyone.
