The University of Trier is located on the border of Germany close to Luxembourg, France and Belgium. The university itself has roots reaching back to the Middle Ages, and was refounded in 1970. It is situated on a hill with park areas and a gorgeous view over the city. With modern architecture surrounded by luscious green nature, it is said to be one of Germany's most beautiful campuses. The university offers a green campus, culture, fine art and an active student life. University of Trier operates a vineyard in the Aveler valley in the city of Trier. Students and employees are invited to work in the vineyard. The resulting wine is bottled for use in hospitality throughout the University.
The city of Trier is Germany's oldest city, and is recognised as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Known as the "Rome of the North", Trier is home to around 110,000 inhabitants and is renowned as the birthplace of Karl Marx.
