With its roots dating from 1639, Ryukoku University is one of the oldest Universities in Japan.
Founded on the principles of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, the University today has seven faculties ranging from the Humanities to the Natural Sciences. Boasting a student population of approximately 20,000 spread over three unique, attractive and accessible campuses in the ancient capital of Kyoto and neighbouring Shiga, the university continues to preserve the past while at the same time press the boundaries of knowledge into the future.
Kyoto, the former capital of Japan, is the heart of Japanese culture and politics. It is unique within Japan as it was virtually untouched during World War II, leaving a myriad of temples, shrines and castles intact.
Ryukoku University provides accommodation for approximately 200 International students in 5 dormitories. These dormitories are conveniently located near all 3 campuses in Kyoto City and Shiga Prefecture. Japanese students also live in these dormitories as tutors to assist International students with day-to-day living and study. All International students who have student status can apply for these dormitories.
