WHY CHOOSE ÅBO AKADEMI?
Abo Akademi is a state university in Finland. Uniquely, it is a Swedish speaking university because of the close ties to Scandinavia and the Swedish-descended communities in Finland. Despite that, it does teach plenty in English. It offers internationally renowned research and education across multiple disciplines and the campus is very close to the city centre.
Turku is known as a student city with a quarter of the population studying or working at the universities in town. Located in Southwestern Finland, the city has an important history and is nowadays known as a relaxed city to visit. Turku lost a lot of its historical buildings in a fire at the beginning of the 1900s but the castle and cathedral are still popular tourist spots along with a selection of galleries and museums. The city has a large foodie scene and boat bars are popular with the large student destination. Beyond the city you can take boat trips around the nearby islands, wild camp and kayak.
