Project Overview
Applications are invited from applicants with a connection to Suffolk for a fully funded PhD scholarship in any field of computing sciences to be supervised by the academic staff at CMP.
The School of Computing Sciences at UEA provides a vibrant research environment for conducting Computing and allied research and training, including Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Colour & Imaging, Computer Vision, Graphics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Cyber Security, Privacy and Trust and Smart Emerging Technologies. We collaborate with multi-national companies such as Apple, BT, Disney and Aviva, research institutes in the Norwich Research Park, as well as other universities and industries in the UK and overseas. We are also members of the Turing University Network, a group of 65 UK universities working together to advance world-class research and build skills for the future.
Applicants must provide proof of their 'Substantial Suffolk Connection', which means someone who:
(a) was born in Suffolk;
(b) currently lives in Suffolk, or has previously lived in Suffolk for a continuous period of at least 1 year;
(c) currently works, volunteers, or studies in Suffolk, or has previously worked, volunteered, or studied in Suffolk for a continuous period of at least 1 year; or
(d) such other persons as Suffolk Community Foundation and UEA may agree upon from time to time (we will only seek alternatives is there is no other option).
We suggest you visit the School of Computing Sciences website, explore research interests of our academic research staff, and identify at least one academic from the linked list who you think might be your PhD supervisor. Please contact them to express your interest and they will provide or help develop a research proposal for your PhD.
The standard minimum entry requirement is 2:1 in Computing Science (or other related STEM subjects).
Funding is available to UK applicants only.
This PhD scholarship is awarded from The Edward and Ivy Rose Hood Memorial Scholarship Programme in Engineering and Computing Sciences and offers an exceptional opportunity for aspiring scholars in the field of engineering. The scholarship provides lab costs, tuition fees, and a maintenance stipend at the standard UEA (and UKRI) rate. Applicants are required to demonstrate a 'Substantial Suffolk Connection'.
