Elevate your expertise by mastering the core principles of computer science. Our final-year programme gives you the power to shape your studies through four distinct streams. By choosing the optional modules that interest you the most, you'll engage with the school’s most advanced subjects in the field and gain the high-demand skills that top employers are looking for.
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
Teaching and Learning
At the school, we believe in learning by doing. Your final year is structured around six comprehensive modules, allowing you to tailor your education to your specific career goals. This flexible approach ensures you’re studying the topics that excite you most, guided by the school’s world-leading subject expertise.
In this final year programme, you can expect at least 12 hours of face-to-face contact time per semester, providing ample opportunity to collaborate directly with expert academics and dedicated teaching assistants. Our teaching philosophy emphasises on hands-on practical, where you apply theory and ideas to real-world challenges in a lab environment.
We’re also committed to your holistic success. International students can take advantage of further eight hours of support on specialised in-sessional English and Study Support led by qualified teachers, as well as dedicated sessions support by personal tutors. You’ll ensure you have the linguistic and academic tools to excel in your studies and beyond.
Assessment
Your progress on this course is measured through a variety of methods designed to mirror the real-world industry. While some modules include traditional in-class exams to verify your foundational knowledge, the majority of your assessment is through innovative, team-based projects. By collaborating in groups to solve complex problems, you'll develop the essential industry skills, such as teamwork, communication, and project management, that top employers demand.
You'll be bringing your work to life through professional oral presentations and live demonstrations. This practical approach ensures you graduate with the confidence to showcase your technical findings and defend your solutions to stakeholders, just as you'll in your future career.
