Our IET-accredited programmes support progression towards Incorporated Engineer status and, with further experience, Chartered Engineer registration.
Our BEng Engineering with a Foundation Year helps you build the science knowledge and study skills you need before starting a full engineering degree. It’s designed to give you a strong academic base so you can move confidently into undergraduate engineering study.
During the foundation year, you’ll study core subjects such as mathematics, physics, computing and introductory engineering. These modules help you develop the knowledge, confidence and problem-solving skills needed for degree-level learning.
You’ll also be supported by an academic adviser who’ll guide you through your studies and help you choose the right modules as you progress towards your degree.
You’ll gain credits for each foundation year module through a mix of coursework and exams. After successfully completing the year, you can progress to one of our BEng engineering degrees. High-performing students may also have the option to transfer to an MEng programme.
Throughout your studies, you’ll build valuable skills in communication, teamwork and problem-solving which are highly valued by employers.
For the years of study after the foundation year, please see the full BEng Engineering course.
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
