Find out moreOur MSc Finance and Management is aligned with leading professional standards and supported by recognised financial industry bodies.
We’re proud to be an educational partner of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), and the CQF Institute – awarding body for the Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF).
These partnerships provide you with access to professional learning resources, industry insights, and pathways to globally respected finance qualifications – empowering you to stand out in the competitive fields of finance, investment, and management.
In the autumn semester, you'll explore the foundations of financial technology and organisational behaviour. You'll examine how emerging technologies are reshaping financial decision-making, and how leadership, governance, and people management influence business performance. This semester helps you build core analytical and strategic skills while encouraging reflection on responsible business practices. Optional pathways allow you to explore concepts such as strategic brand positioning, financial decision-making within corporate settings, and the ethical and responsible integration of emerging technologies in business, like AI, to support innovation and enhance organisational performance.
In the spring semester, your learning will focus on financial responsibility and the structure of financial services. You'll develop a deeper understanding of how financial institutions operate, how businesses manage financial risk, and how strategic decisions are made in complex environments. Optional pathways allow you to explore entrepreneurial thinking, innovation strategy, digital transformation in business, and the governance structures that shape decision-making across international contexts. You can thus tailor your degree in a way that expands your understanding of how finance and management intersect in dynamic organisational environments.
In the summer semester, you'll apply your learning in a context that reflects your academic and professional interests. You’ll explore investment and risk management. You can then choose to complete a dissertation, undertake an industry-focused project (subject to availability), or study two specialised taught modules. This flexible structure allows you to pursue academic research, gain practical experience, or deepen your understanding of how organisations address sustainability, apply project management tools and techniques, and navigate the strategic and operational challenges in the global business environment. You'll also complete two zero-credit modules: one focused on ESG investment strategies using Bloomberg, and another year-long module preparing you for the Bloomberg Market Concepts certificate—both designed to enhance your applied financial skills and industry readiness.
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
You'll learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, and applied sessions, with a strong emphasis on connecting financial decision-making to strategic management practice. Teaching draws on both academic research and real-world business insight, encouraging you to think critically about how finance and leadership interact in dynamic organisational settings.
Throughout the course, you'll engage with live financial data using Bloomberg Terminals in our FinTech Lab, and explore how emerging technologies, such as AI and blockchain, are reshaping business models and decision-making. You'll work independently and in teams, developing skills in analysis, communication, and leadership—essential for navigating complex business environments.
The programme encourages active learning through case studies, simulations, and problem-solving exercises that reflect real-world challenges. You may also have opportunities to participate in guest lectures, workshops, and industry-focused projects, offering valuable exposure to professional practice. Bloomberg certification is embedded into the course, helping you build confidence with industry-standard tools.
Class sizes typically range from 20 to 40, though some specialised modules may be smaller, allowing for more tailored support and interaction. Independent study is a key part of the learning experience, helping you become a reflective and adaptable practitioner ready to lead in finance and management roles.
You can join the UEA Finance and Investment Society, a vibrant community for those aspiring to become finance professionals. This student-led society offers hands-on opportunities to collaborate, share ideas, and develop real-world skills through peer learning, networking events, and student-led fund management, helping you apply theory to practice in a supportive, career-focused environment.
Assessment on the MSc Finance and Management programme is designed to reflect the demands of both professional practice and academic depth. You'll be assessed through a combination of written coursework, analytical reports, formal examinations, and applied assignments that simulate real-world business and financial decision-making. These methods help you develop the ability to analyse complex problems, communicate strategic insights, and apply financial and managerial concepts in practical contexts.
Most modules include formative feedback opportunities, allowing you to reflect on your progress and improve before final assessments. Summative feedback is provided in line with university guidelines and is designed to support your academic development and deepen your understanding of key concepts and techniques.
The varied assessment methods support different learning styles and help you build a broad skill set, including financial reasoning, strategic thinking, and leadership communication. This approach also encourages independent learning and ethical awareness, which are essential skills for success in finance, management, and consultancy roles.
While the exact balance of assessment types may vary across modules, you can expect a mix of coursework and formal examinations, with embedded practical elements. There are no formal placements, but students undertaking an industry-focused project may gain valuable experience and insight into professional environments.
