What is PGDip Clinical Education and Leadership?
This fully online, part-time postgraduate diploma supports clinicians and healthcare professionals who wish to develop as educational leaders and scholars. You'll explore contemporary approaches to teaching, learning, assessment, leadership and educational research within a supportive interprofessional learning community.
Across two years, you'll progressively develop your expertise through workplace-based learning, critical reflection and applied scholarship. The programme enables you to evaluate and enhance educational practice while addressing authentic challenges from your own clinical or educational setting.

Structure
Your journey begins by developing a strong foundation in contemporary clinical education. You'll explore key principles of teaching, learning, assessment and evaluation, while examining how educational theory can be applied to enhance teaching practice across a range of clinical settings.
Learning is closely connected to your own educational practice through authentic workplace activities, critical reflection and collaborative discussions with peers from different healthcare professions. Throughout the year, you'll progressively develop your confidence as an educator while planning, implementing and evaluating educational initiatives within your own clinical or educational environment.

Compulsory Modules

Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
Structure
Your second year focuses on advancing your expertise in educational leadership, scholarship and evidence-informed practice. You'll develop the knowledge and skills to critically evaluate educational evidence, apply research to improve teaching and learning, and lead educational innovation within healthcare and higher education.
The programme encourages you to address authentic educational challenges from your own workplace while learning alongside an experienced interprofessional cohort. Through leadership-focused and scholarly activities, you'll strengthen your ability to influence educational practice, support organisational improvement and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical education.
Throughout the programme, learning is delivered fully online and part-time, combining flexible asynchronous learning with live online sessions that encourage discussion, collaboration and peer learning. You'll also engage in independent study, workplace-based learning and reflection, allowing you to apply new knowledge directly to your own educational practice while balancing professional commitments.

Teaching and Learning, and Assessment
Teaching and Learning
The PGDip Clinical Education and Leadership programme is delivered fully online and part-time, providing the flexibility to study alongside your professional commitments. You'll learn within a supportive interprofessional community through a blend of asynchronous eWorkshops, guided independent study and live online sessions led by experienced clinical educators.
Learning is grounded in adult learning principles and designed to promote active participation, critical thinking and collaboration. Throughout the programme, you'll engage with contemporary educational theory while applying your learning to authentic challenges from your own clinical or educational setting through workplace-based activities and reflection.
In year one, you'll develop core knowledge and skills in teaching, learning, assessment and evaluation, applying educational theory directly to your own practice.
In year two, you'll explore educational leadership, scholarship and evidence-informed practice while developing the knowledge and skills to lead educational improvement within healthcare and higher education.
Assessment
Assessment is designed to support your professional development through authentic tasks that reflect the work of clinical educators. You'll complete a variety of assessments, including reflective essays, lesson plans, educational evaluations, workplace-based projects, research proposals and leadership-focused assignments.
Throughout the programme, you'll receive constructive feedback from experienced educators to support your progress. Assessments are aligned with programme learning outcomes and encourage you to integrate educational theory with your professional practice, demonstrating your development as a clinical educator, leader and scholar.
Year one assessments focus on teaching, learning, assessment and evaluation through reflective writing, lesson planning and a workplace-based improvement project.
In year two, you'll complete assessments addressing educational leadership, evidence-informed practice, research and scholarship, including critical reflections, research-focused assignments and applied leadership activities.

Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading):
