What is MSc Advanced Professional Practice?
This NHS England-accredited course supports registered healthcare professionals working in advancing clinical practice roles. The course is aligned to the NHS England Multi-Professional Framework for Advanced Practice (2025) and underpinned by the four pillars of advanced practice.
This flexible MSc combines core and optional modules, allowing you to tailor your studies to your professional role, scope of practice, and career goals. Many modules are delivered through online and blended learning, making it easier to balance study with work. Throughout the course, you'll develop the confidence to make informed clinical decisions, apply evidence to complex healthcare challenges, and improve the quality of care in your workplace. Practice-based learning and assessment ensure you can put your new knowledge into action from day one.
On successful completion, you'll graduate with a Master's-level qualification that supports career progression within advanced professional practice.

Accreditations
As an NHSE-accredited course, if you’re working in an advanced practice role, completion of the MSc Advanced Professional Practice supports registration for NHS England digital badge, which provides the recognition and evidence that you’ve achieved an appropriate advanced practice educational qualification. Depending on your professional role and modules choices, you may also be eligible to apply for external credentialing opportunities through professional bodies such as the Royal College of Nursing and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

You'll study a combination of core and optional modules, giving you the flexibility to tailor your qualification to your role, workplace setting and professional interests. As you progress through the course, you'll begin to shape your learning around your area of professional practice.
Some optional modules have additional entry requirements and may require organisational support or workplace supervision.

Teaching and Learning, and Assessment
Teaching and Learning
Teaching is delivered through a combination of online, face-to-face and workplace-based learning approaches. Many modules include flexible asynchronous learning supported by live webinars, tutorials and collaborative discussion.
In year one, you'll learn alongside experienced healthcare professionals from a range of clinical and professional backgrounds. Teaching is informed by current clinical practice, research and contemporary healthcare priorities. You'll begin combining core and optional study through online, blended and workplace-integrated learning approaches.
In year two, you'll continue developing knowledge and professional practice through flexible learning tailored to your workplace role and interests.
In year three, your final year includes independent study and a workplace-based Quality Improvement Project linked to your professional setting.
Assessment
Assessment methods support application of learning within advanced professional and clinical practice. Formative and summative assessments are used throughout the course to support your academic and professional development. Assessment methods vary between modules and may include written assignments, presentations, examinations and practice-based assessment.
Year one assessment methods reflect the modules selected and may include academic, practice-based and reflective assessment approaches.
In year two, you'll continue completing assessments linked to your professional role, workplace learning and advanced practice development.
Your final year includes completion of a Quality Improvement Project within your workplace or professional setting.

Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading):

Fees and Funding
Tuition fees for the Academic Year 2027/28 are:

International Students: £25,000
If you choose to study part-time, the fee per annum will be half the annual fee for that year, or a pro-rata fee for the module credit you are taking (only available for Home students).
We estimate living expenses at £1,171 per month.
