Believing in the Athena Swan Charter

The Equality Challenge Unit’s Athena Swan Charter was expanded in 2015 to recognise work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly and not just barriers to progression that affect women.

The University of East Anglia achieved bronze institutional award in 2012 and silver institutional award in 2019.

Our Achievements

Our Science Schools embrace a progressive culture, underpinned and enhanced by adopting the commitments of the Athena Swan Charter. Our Biological Sciences and Environmental Sciences have achieved Silver Athena Swan awards. Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics and Pharmacy all hold Bronze Athena Swan awards.

Our Faculty has an Athena Swan and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Project Coordinator who assists our Schools to collect evidential data and implement their action plans. If you have an interest in our inclusivity ideas we would love to hear from you and your ideas could help to make a difference. Email equality@uea.ac.uk
