My name is Amaia Lakidain. I am currently studying my third year of BSc Economics at UEA, and I am from Spain.

When deciding to come to study to the UK, one of the most important decisions I had to make was of course the university where I wanted to spend the next three years growing both academically and personally. UEA quickly made it to the top of the list. The combination of high-quality teaching, which is reflected by its good rankings, the opportunities within the school to engage further and keep learning outside of the class and the wide range of activities and events within the university alongside with the great international community and fantastic student support services made clear to me that UEA was the place where I wanted to be at.

During my years at UEA I also feel that I started to shape my future and what my interests as an economist (if I can already call myself so) are. Personally, I would thoroughly recommend all the Microeconomics and Econometrics modules at every level as well as the Maths and Behavioural Economics modules as well although I am aware that these recommendations might be a bit biased given my personal interests. However, I have been lucky enough not to find any module that I would not recommend as the wide range and variety of modules allows for everyone to focus on what their interests are. In addition, there is always the opportunity to engage further in whatever your area of choice within Economics is as the school offers a wide range of seminars and academic events which cover every area you can imagine and there is also a vast number of online resources to boost both your knowledge and also your employability skills (which is really helpful).

But not everything has been about studying, being at UEA has allowed me to open myself and find amazing friends who I enjoy sharing my time with and I get to learn so much from them. I also joined the School’s Economics journal, the Norwich Economic Publications and I became a committee member for the Economics Society and became a PAL mentor for first-year the Mathematics for Economists module which gave me the opportunity to keep meeting and engaging with students from all years and backgrounds within our school and also gaining employability skills that can be translated into the workplace. Alongside the great student community at ECO, the lecturers are some of the most approachable and friendliest people I have ever met. Being an international student I deeply appreciate the community we have here, as it makes the School to feel like a big family for me and there is always someone that you can reach whenever you struggle with something.

After three years of being at UEA I can only say that coming here has been one of the best decisions I ever made and it truly is Home of the Wonderful!
