British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025/26
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at UEA invites potential applicants wishing to hold a three-year Fellowship at UEA from autumn 2026 to submit an outline application to the Faculty by 5pm on Tuesday 10th June.
British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships are designed to offer opportunities for outstanding early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching. More information on this call can be found at: Postdoctoral Fellowships | The British Academy
Each year the Faculty supports a limited number of applications to this call. These can be held in the School of Media, Languages and Communication; the School of History and History of Art; the School of Literature, Drama, and Creative Writing; the School of Politics, Philosophy and Area Studies; the Interdisciplinary Institute for the Humanities; The Sainsbury Research Unit; The Sainsbury Institute for the study of Japanese Arts and Culture; or The Sainsbury Centre.
The successful applicant will join a vibrant community of postdoctoral research fellows and academic researchers. UEA is fully committed to supporting the scholarship and career development of our fellows. The fellow will be assigned an academic mentor and will be fully integrated into the life of their host School. Please read the additional HUM guidance provided below, on how you apply to the HUM Faculty sift.
Then identify a mentor within the Arts and Humanities Faculty and discuss your outline application with them before submitting. Applications without a mentor will not be considered.
Complete the outline application form and email this to hum.research@uea.ac.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 10th June.
There will then be a Faculty sift meeting to choose the most competitive applicants to apply to the British Academy fellowship call.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) European Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of East Anglia (UEA) invites potential applicants wishing to apply to the MSCA European Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 call to submit an expression of interest to their selection process within the Social Sciences and Humanities panel
MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to excellent researchers of any nationality who wish to come to or move within the UK and Europe.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply:
The researcher must be in possession of a doctoral degree or have successfully defended their doctoral thesis before call deadline (10th September).
The researcher cannot have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary (UK) for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately prior to the call deadline.
The researcher must have a maximum of 8 years research experience from the date of award of the (first) doctoral degree (years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe)
What is funded
The fellowship provides funding for a generous cost-of-living, mobility allowance and if applicable a family allowance. The duration of the fellowship can be between 12 and 24 months. Proposals may include an optional secondment during the fellowship and/or an optional non-academic placement period, provided they are in line with the project objectives and add significant value and/or impact to the fellowship.
Process to apply
Potential applicants are invited to work with a supervisor at the University of East Anglia to submit an expression of interest form and two-page CV to the Arts and Humanities Faculty selection process. The deadline for the sift is 16th June 9am (UK time). The process to apply is:
Identify a potential supervisor from UEA with a suitable profile who could be interested in supporting your project. Ask them to supervise your research and if they agree, work with them on the expression of interest form to the internal stage of the recruitment process.
Submit the application composed of the expression of interest form and a 2-page CV by 16th June 9am (UK time) to hum.research@uea.ac.uk.
Candidates who are successful at the internal UEA sift panel will be notified by 9th July and supported by their supervisors to submit their application for the MSCA Fellowship with HUM UEA Faculty as a host institution.
