11:00 - 12:45 | A Taste of Engineering (General, Mechanical & Energy) Extracting renewable energy from water flow Hydroelectric power is by far the world’s largest source of renewable electricity, delivering approximately 16% of the total global electricity supply. But how is power extracted from fluid flow? In this activity, you will get hand-on in the water lab to experiment with jets and turbines to analyse the power contained within flowing water and discover the shocking efficiency with which modern turbines can extract this – assuming you can optimise the operating condition.
