Explore our state-of-the-art teaching facilities

Join a thriving research community

We encourage you to take advantage of our BPS-commended research facilities during your degree, and actively learn how to conduct research.

Our laboratories are full of researchers exploring real-life situations and behaviours. We have our Developmental Dynamics Lab, Vision and Action Lab, and the UEA Wellcome-Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, which is home to our own MRI scanner.

Work happening in our labs includes:

  • Exploring brain function using our own MRI scanner

  • Understanding how children learn before they can speak, using eye-tracking technology

  • Simulating the impact of a stroke on the brain and exploring memory

  • Observing what happens in the brains of children when they learn and interact with caregivers

  • Tracking people’s physical responses to situations using virtual reality environments

  • Examining how the quality of our sleep affects how we process and learn information.

All our teaching is informed by the research we do. Whether it’s social psychology research into pro-environmental behaviour, or cognitive research using neuroimaging, your study pathways will reflect the strengths and depth of knowledge of our researchers and the quality of our facilities.

My placement year has been a good opportunity to understand the behind-the-scenes services we all may use one day. My placement allows me to apply psychological theories to everyday life situations, learn what I like and dislike, and explore a career that I may want to go into after I graduate.
