My name is Ceyda Kiyak, and I am a first year PhD student in Psychology at UEA. I am also the student ambassador for Turkey.
After living in different cities in different countries (Dublin, Milan, London, Bournemouth, İstanbul, İzmir) I ended in Norwich for my PhD. Doing PhD was one of my goals in life for years, so I did extensive research before choosing UEA to make the best decision. UEA has high position in rankings and the quality of research, and great connections for industry placement for future employability and building a professional network which is great match for what I expected for my future academic career. Another appealing thing for me to choose UEA was the scholarship for international students which is relatively rare compared to other universities in UK.
As a person who is passionate about science, psychology, different languages and cultures, and literature, I find life at UEA fulfilling as it has everything that I need with debating club, book club, psychology club and WISE society (Women in Science and Engineering). Apart from this, I enjoy hiking, cycling, and dancing and UEA has a lot to offer. I regularly join Zumba classes in Sportspark and cycle around the lake in the campus.
Norwich is a very green city with many historical places, a stunning cathedral and castle, and colourful streets to enjoy. My favourite spot in Norwich is riverside where you can both have a nice and long walk and cycle through the city. I also like the fact that Norwich is very international with people coming from different cultures and background which makes the city very diverse and vibrant.
