Sainsbury Research Unit Lisa Sainsbury Scholarship in the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas

The Sainsbury Research Unit is offering the Lisa Sainsbury Scholarship for students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland pursuing an MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas.

Each scholarship includes:

• International tuition fee of £25,000 for international students, (or £11,750 for Irish and Dual Citizen students).

• Reimbursement, if applicable, of Visa costs & UK health surcharge, plus one return journey between home and Norwich (economy class), subject to valid receipts.

• A contribution towards Maintenance costs.

• An additional £650 for travel costs related to MA, including museum visits.

You do not need to submit a separate application for this scholarship as all those offered a place on the MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas will be invited to apply. However, in order to be considered for this scholarship, you do need to apply for the course by 31 January 2027.

To be considered for this scholarship you must be in receipt of an offer of a place, on the MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, for the academic year 2027/28. To be considered, you will need to have applied for this course by 31 January 2027.

This scholarship is open to those who are a national of, or domiciled in, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland.

This scholarship is designed to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent talented applicants from pursuing the MA.

The SRU also has some bursaries available for candidates who are not awarded a full scholarship, to assist with the cost-of-living expenses.

Applicants whose first language is not English are encouraged to take an English Proficiency Test prior to applying for the Full Scholarship. For a list of accepted qualifications to meet this requirement, please visit English Language Equivalencies

1. Apply for the MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas for the academic year 2027/28, by 31 January 2027.

2. Selected candidates will be invited to an admissions interview.

3. Following a successful admission interview, eligible candidates will be invited to submit a short essay, with a deadline of 8 March 2027. You will be notified by 20 February 2027 if you have been invited to this stage of the process.

4. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to give a 5 minute presentation, followed by a further interview, during the week commencing 15 March 2027.

5. All candidates will be notified whether they have been offered a scholarship by the end of March 2027.
