Sainsbury Research Unit Bursaries in the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas
The Sainsbury Research Unit offers Bursaries outstanding applicants on the MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas. Bursaries are designed to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent talented applicants from pursuing the MA.
Each bursary includes:
A Maintenance Grant to support students with living costs while enrolled on the MA
An additional £650 for travel costs related to MA, including museum visits
Eligibility
You are eligible for a bursary if you meet these criteria:
You are in receipt of an offer of a place, by the University of East Anglia on the MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, for the academic year 2027/28
Provided you are offered a place following an admission interview, you will automatically be considered for a bursary, with no separate application required.
There are a limited number of scholarships available, so you are advised to apply for an MA by 31 January 2027.

Restrictions with other Scholarships
Students receiving sponsorship covering maintenance by an outside body or government organization are not eligible for this bursary. Government or educational loans that require repayment do not affect eligibility. Please note that students awarded an SRU Bursary can still apply for UEA fee reduction Scholarships. Application Process
To be considered for a bursary, you need to apply for your place on the MA in The Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, ideally by 31 January 2027, and have received an offer of a place by the University of East Anglia for the academic year 2027/28.
Provided the applicant meets the eligibility criteria, they will automatically be considered for the bursary, on a competitive basis, with no separate application required.
Deadline:
There are a limited number of bursaries available, and applicants are advised to apply early, ideally by 31 January 2027 for both Home and International applicants.
