Welcome to Clearing 2026
As Clearing approaches, depending on their results your students may need some extra help and advice around their university choices. Clearing offers lots of opportunities for your students to re-evaluate their options – whether their results are lower or higher than expected.

Whether your students are celebrating, or needing to consider their next steps, our informative guide will help you and your students feel confident in their decision-making.

Assisting with a Clearing application
You can help your students to build a strong Clearing application by encouraging them to prepare any application materials in advance. This might include relevant supporting documents such as their GCSE results, and reliable references. If your students haven’t yet applied through UCAS, they will also need support to write a personal statement for their application. Understanding who is eligible for Clearing
If any one of the following scenarios apply to your students, they will be eligible to apply for their chosen course through Clearing:
Their exams didn’t go as well as expected and they haven’t been accepted by either their firm (first) or insurance (second) choice universities
They didn’t meet the conditions of the offers they received.
They didn’t receive any offers for a course from a university.
They have declined their firm (first) choice university using the “decline my place” button on their application.
They rejected an offer because they changed their mind about their chosen course or location.
They are applying to university after 30 June 2026.

Reach out to universities
Encourage your students to research the different universities they are interested in so they can imagine what their life might be like studying there. Most universities offer opportunities to explore their campus in person, or virtual tours of what to expect from student life. University websites and social media channels can also help them to gain a sense of what a typical day can be like, alongside opportunities to connect with current students.
