The UEA Music Society is open to all students at UEA without audition, whatever their ability. Run and led by a student committee, the Society aims to be a thriving source of musical opportunities in the widest variety of styles. The Society offers opportunities to rehearse, perform together, or just enjoy a friendly group of like-minded people in a wide and varied programme of events which take place throughout the academic year.
As one of the largest and most active societies, UEA Music Society endeavours to perform concerts of high quality, which will entertain both its audiences and its performers. Their ensembles perform for private functions across Norwich as well as across the UEA Campus.
The Society runs a number of large ensembles, including: a Choir, who perform an eclectic programme ranging from classical to jazz; a Concert Band, who perform classical as well as more contemporary Film music; and a Big Band, whose repertoire includes blues, funk, jazz and soul. Smaller groups include an ‘A Capella’ group, a clarinet choir, and an 8-piece jazz ensemble called 'The Jazz Collective'. For more information about the ensembles, check out some of their performances.
The Society could not function without the support and enthusiasm of its members, which is why all ensembles will always rehearse with an open-door and without audition. Many members do perform to a very high standard but alongside people who are picking up an instrument for the first time. Everyone has a place and the Society prides themselves on the enjoyment of making music.
Membership to all of the Music Society's ensembles is currently £7/year.
Details of forthcoming UEA Music Society performances can be found in our Event Calendar.
