Mental Health and Social Care Research Department

Our Department of applied health and care researchers and clinical academics address pressing health, care and service delivery challenges in our theme areas, working in partnership across the Norwich Research Park, nationally and internationally.

We are a community of health services researchers, nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, psychology specialities, pharmacists and social scientists. Our supportive research environment is underpinned by mentorship, peer support, and career planning frameworks. Inclusive research is at the heart of all we do, and we support all researchers and those who train with us to apply inclusive research principles across the full research life cycle.

Our four research themes are:

Mental Health

Understand the causes and impacts of mental health problems, and develop novel approaches to improve prevention, treatment and lived experience. Understand the role of sleep in human health and develop and test applied sleep health interventions.

Partnerships for Health and Social Care

Understand how to best design and deliver preventive and supportive interventions for health and wellbeing across the life course with consideration for under-represented groups and communities in the UK and beyond.

Stroke and Brain Injury

Investigate the neuroscience of rehabilitation to promote recovery and quality of life including novel treatments for mental health symptoms.

Workforce and Professions

Investigate new ways of working in health and social care including roles and service delivery to improve clinical and care outcomes and promote a healthy and productive work environment for staff, students, and family/friend carers.
