This talk explores the strange conversations between images and words and how some pictures refuse to stay still, generating poetry and prose and new ways of seeing. We'll look at the art of ekphrasis and writing the visual, including Charles Simic's prose poems responding to Joseph Cornell's curious boxes and Mark Doty's Still Life with Oysters and Lemon which reminds us that looking closely can be a creative act.
