Associate Professor in Drama, School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing
Professor Sola Adeyemi joined UEA in 2021; originally from Nigeria, he came to the UK to pursue his PhD in Theatre Studies in Leeds, going on to teach at Loughborough, Greenwich and Goldsmith’s University.
Prof Adeyemi’s research areas include Global Theatres, Postcolonial Theatre and Literary Studies; African Theatre and Performance (with special emphasis on West Africa and South Africa), and Contemporary British and Black British Theatre.
Key Projects
Prof Adeyemi is the president of the African Theatre Association (AfTA). AfTA exists to advance research and education in the study and practice of African theatre and performance. AfTA is committed to critically appraising dominant representations of theatre and performance in Africa and the African Diaspora, and to facilitating a constructive comparative conversation across African cultures, and between African cultures and the rest of the world. AfTA also publishes a bi-annual journal which is dedicated to publishing and disseminating high-quality research and information on theatre and performance in Africa and the African Diaspora: African Performance Review.
