Meisner Technique Weekend Workshop
This is the first in a series of professional level workshops, where we'll be exploring the Meisner Technique for all and any actors, familiar or unfamiliar with it, to see how radically powerful it can be for your work!
The Schedule
30 October - 1 November 2026
Underpinning the careers of Jeff Goldblum, Steve Carell, Julian Moore, Diane Keaton and Sam Rockwell, as well as so many wonderful actors, is Sanford Meisner's unique training system - "Acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances".
In these three days we will explore the foundations of that technique and see how they work together to change your acting:
Friday evening
The Repetition Exercise - Innovative but amazingly simple, Meisner put the spontaneous and honest interaction between actors at the heart of his technique, and insisted that truthful behaviour came from an uncensored response to your partner.
Saturday morning
The Independent Activity - Meisner's adaptation of Stanislavsky's system is rooted in the Reality of Doing. Adding this exercise to the Repetition, we'll see its impact in the moment-to-moment truthfulness that you experience.
Saturday afternoon
The Knock-at-the-Door - The trio of foundational exercises is completed by your "reason to be in the room". With this we have a full set of imagined circumstances and an uninhibited exchange between actors. What follows is pure emotionally truthful improvisation.
Sunday
As we apply these lessons to a short text, we'll see how they offer a revolutionary way of approaching your scene work and your relationship to the words on the page.
