The UEA Drama Studio is the University of East Anglia’s purpose-built theatre space, adaptable to either white or black box configurations, and to a wide variety of events and performance contexts.
Our History
Opened by Harold Pinter on 26th January 1994, the studio hosted performances from Timothy West and Prunella Scales that very evening. The studio went on to host their son, Samuel West, who stands alongside many of our other guest lecturers such as David Edgar and Timberlake Wertenbaker.
As a key local and national theatre, the UEA Drama Studio has hosted Eastern Angles, Frantic Assembly, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Hoi Polloi – the latter serving as resident company at the studio in the 1990s. There have been laughs aplenty too, with Eddie Izzard, Arthur Smith, and John Kearnes all entertaining audiences for the University’s 50th Anniversary.

Our Education
The UEA Drama Studio’s other key role is educational. The respected Drama and Creative Writing BA and MA programmes are based here, and graduates such as Matt Smith, Gareth Malone, Olivia Vinall and Greg James have all trod the boards in the Studio in the achievement of their studies.
With its multi-level studio theatre, the venue can host up to 149 audience members for Theatre, Lectures and conferences, while the smaller Rehearsal Room makes more intimate events possible with its 30 seat capacity.
