Consultancy

The School of Global Development has a long history of staff applying their research knowledge to the targeted consultancy requirements of a range of international development clients since its foundation in 1967.

The School’s strong research credentials were recognised in the UK Government’s Research Excellence Framework in 2021 when DEV ranked 1st in the UK for its research quality and impact in development studies. It is also a previous recipient of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for pioneering research that contributes to alleviating poverty in developing countries through environmental sustainability.

Drawing on active research and teaching engagement in areas such as Global Environmental Justice, Sustainable Food Systems, Media and Development, Migrants and Refugees, Education and Development, Gender, and Development Evaluation, DEV academics are well placed to work with national and international institutions as advisers, team leaders, and researchers. Information about our research can be found here: DEV UEA Research

Providing specialist advice is a key feature of the School’s consultancy activity. In addition, staff give guidance and training on methodologies for research. Consultancy work includes designing methodologies and work plans for project reviews, training local staff in data collection and analysis, undertaking quantitative and qualitative (impact) evaluation and assessments, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and providing strategic thinking and guidance.

Clients we have worked for include: the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and other bilateral and multilateral donors; agencies within the UN and CGIAR systems (for example: UNITAR; UNICEF; WorldFish; and IFPRI); the World Bank; USAID; International Non-Governmental Organisations such as Save the Children and OXFAM, and organisations working to address poverty in the UK.
