Employability Events and Activities

Our employability program combines academic insight, practical experience, and real-world connections.

We host regular employability events, inviting leading organisations from a wide range of industries, including finance, consulting, policy, data analytics, international development, and more. These talks raise awareness of different career paths and demonstrate how economics can be applied across industry roles. Interested students can book one-to-one meetings with the speakers. Specialised talks by employers are also offered within the relevant modules.

The School of Economics runs a range of careers workshops to prepare you for the job market. These include how to write effective CVs and cover letters, how to be successful in assessment centres and interviews, and how to use social media effectively. In addition, you can participate in extra-curricular IT workshops for hands-on experience with Python, AI, data visualisations, and web scraping.

We are proud that our alumni often come back and help students by providing invaluable tips and advice. We run a series of events where our successful graduates share their experiences with our current students. Our annual Alumni Networking Event has been particularly successful, giving our students the chance to build strong connections with our alumni, as well as members of the School’s Strategic Advisory Board.

We offer several competitive scholarships that cover a one-year membership to the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments (CISI). This membership provides the successful applicants with an opportunity to study for and sit the Level 3 exams, helping them earn globally recognised chartered financial services qualifications.

In addition to our Internships and Placements you can also gain valuable experience as a member of the editorial team of the Norwich Economic Publications, while getting paid. As part of this role, whether Chief Editor, Editor or Associate Editor, you’ll interview academics, produce podcasts, write reports, select other students’ exemplary works for publication, and make executive decisions on the NEP Annual Competition. You can apply for any of these positions every year.

You can also benefit from our mentoring scheme, which matches you with one of our alumni working in your field of interest. To sharpen your focus on career opportunities, you and your mentor will meet periodically to discuss job market expectations, skills development, and training opportunities.
