Eric Zie is a leading authority in digital sustainability and the founder of GoCodeGreen, a ClimateTech company recognised globally for pioneering methods to measure and reduce the carbon impact of ICT and software. With a career spanning over 30 years in technology, innovation, and strategy, Eric has held leadership roles across industry and academia, shaping responsible digital growth and advising on sustainable IT transformation at scale.
He currently serves as Vice Chair of techUK's Climate Council and as a workstream lead on sustainable software for the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU). His published works include the guidebook series Decarbonise Digital and the Digital Carbon Emissions Measurement Framework for The Payments Association—tools now used across the public and private sectors to drive tangible climate action in digital operations.
Eric holds visiting and honorary professorships at King's College London, the University of Suffolk, and UEA, where he contributes to curriculum development in digital and sustainable computing. He is also the founder of the GCG Learning Academy, a B-Corp certified education platform providing sustainability training for developers and engineers globally. His research work at CR&A is currently focused on Generative AI in software development and Sustainability in AI.
A Google Brain Award winner and two-time Earthshot Prize nominee, Eric has been recognised as a World Green Technology Leader, a medallist at the IET for Sustainability, Computing’s Digital Ambassador of the Year, and on their Digital Leader 100 list.
