This interactive map shows health inequality in the UK, based on new research led by UEA. The research shows that rates of premature mortality are two times higher in the most deprived areas of England, compared to the most affluent.

What is the map is showing?

Explore the map to find out how many years of life are lost in your area to the 20 leading causes of death such as breast cancer, self-harm, drug abuse, road injuries and dementia across the UK.

Where does the information come from?

The study, from the Global Burden of Disease initiative, provides data on premature mortality, disability and risk factors from 1990 to 2016 for 150 Upper-Tier Local Authority (UTLAs) in England, as well as Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, with the aim of informing resource allocation and priorities at a local, regional and national level.
