Within the Department of Clinical Psychology there are two well-established postgraduate professional training courses in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT): the Postgraduate Diploma CBT Primary Care Mental Health and the Postgraduate Diploma CBT. In addition the CBT workshop programme provides the opportunity for continued training in CBT at an intermediate to advanced level, post qualification.
The Postgraduate Diploma CBT Primary Care Mental Health is allied to the Department of Health (DoH) Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) initiative launched in 2008. The UEA was a first-wave site in providing training in evidence based psychological therapy for adults with anxiety disorders and depression. The British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) reaccredited this course at Level 2 in 2013.
The Postgraduate Diploma CBT provides post qualification training in the theory and practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It gives experienced mental health professionals the opportunity to develop a solid grounding in CBT knowledge and skill and is likely to be of interest to nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, BABCP accredited counsellors, psychiatrists and mental health social workers. Applications from professionals who wish to access training through the Knowledge Skills and Attitude (KSA) route with substantial mental health experience will also be considered. The course is accredited at Level 1 with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
The Advanced CBT workshops that were introduced in 2010 aimed to provide high quality continued professional development (CPD) to CBT graduates and clinical psychologists. Internationally known experts in their specialist field of CBT facilitate these workshops, which provides up-to-date cutting edge training in CBT theory and practice.
