What is the Accommodation Guarantee?

As space in UEA accommodation is limited, we guarantee certain groups of students a room in residences. We do try to offer rooms to non-guaranteed students but this depends on availability. We will usually advise whether we are able to offer rooms to non-guaranteed students in late August or September.

What does the Accommodation Guarantee cover?

Please note that the guarantee is for the offer of a room in University residences, in accommodation otherwise managed by the University or by one of UEA’s partner organisations:

The guarantee is not for a room of a particular type or, necessarily, a single room. This means that we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated your preferred residence or type of room. We will, of course, do our best to meet your preference but we may have to offer you a shared room (with a student of the same gender) on a temporary basis.

If a room offer is rejected or not accepted and subsequently withdrawn, you will no longer be guaranteed accommodation.

UEA will guarantee you accommodation in University owned or managed residences as a single student, provided that you meet all of the following requirements:

  • You are a new entrant to UEA, starting the first year of your undergraduate course in September 2023
  • You have chosen UEA as your firm choice
  • You are starting a full-time course at UEA in September 2023
  • We have received your application for accommodation by 31 July 2023 (11.59pm UK time, on 31 July 2023).
  • You have fully met all academic conditions of your course offer by 1 September 2023 (unless advised in writing by UEA Admissions that you have a later deadline)
  • We aim to provide all first year students starting in September 2023 joining us via clearing with university accommodation. Your written offer will confirm whether you will be guaranteed accommodation with us.
  • Students with an international fee status who join us in September 2023 will be guaranteed for the duration of their undergraduate degree.

The following groups of students are not guaranteed accommodation:

  • Students who have chosen UEA as an Insurance choice. Insurance students should still apply for accommodation before the 31 July deadline.
  • Students starting an Undergraduate course who have lived in UEA accommodation during a previous wholly or partially completed course (not including pre-sessional English courses)
  • Students who have lived in UEA accommodation during their UEA foundation year
  • Students starting an undergraduate course where the start date is later than 1 October 2023
  • Students who have breached the Terms and Conditions of the Licence to Occupy, including debt, during previous licence periods.

The Guarantee

Your guarantee is for a room in University residences, in accommodation otherwise managed by the University or by one of UEA’s partner organisations. The guarantee is not for a room of a particular type or, necessarily, a single room. This means that we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated your preferred residence or type of room, but we promise to do our best. If we do not have enough single rooms to meet demand, you may be offered a twin room to share with another student of the same gender as a temporary measure. Usually, as the term progresses, we are able to offer all guaranteed students a single room of their own. If you do not meet our guarantee, you may still apply. Once all guaranteed students are accommodated, we may be able to offer rooms to students who do not hold a guarantee.

UEA will guarantee you accommodation, provided that you meet all of the following requirements:

  • You are a new entrant to UEA and an international first year postgraduate student
  • You are starting a full-time course at UEA between 1 September 2023 and 1 October 2023 inclusive
  • We have received your application for accommodation before the end of 31 July 2023 (23:59 UK time on 31 July 2023)
  • You have paid the University Deposit by 31 July 2023 (23:59 UK time on 31 July 2023)
  • You have accepted your course offer by the 31 July 2023 (23:59 UK time on 31 July 2023)
  • You have fully met any conditions of your course offer by 08 August 2023 (unless advised in writing by PGT/PGR Admissions that a later deadline is acceptable)

The following groups of students are not guaranteed accommodation:

  • UK (Home fee) or EU students
  • Returning students who have completed an undergraduate course and are starting a postgraduate course.
  • Returning Postgraduate students
  • Registration only students
  • Students starting a postgraduate course where the start date is later than 01 October 2023
  • While there is no guarantee for the above student types, you may still submit an application. Those who apply for a room will be kept updated via email.

Please note that we are unable to offer accommodation to part-time students.

We reserve the right to decline bookings for students who have breached the Terms and Conditions of the Licence to Occupy, including debt, during previous licence periods.
