Grace Kenya - MA International Development

What could your UEA be about? Well, from my experience, it has consistently demonstrated what I expected from a UK Top 15 university renowned for student satisfaction. No other institution could be more student focused than the University of East Anglia. It certainly takes a lot into consideration in making student life comfortable, fun and exciting. Students enjoy a variety of modern, cost effective and easily accessible accommodation options to choose from allowing you to connect and make friends as well as have a private moment. The orientation programme is skilfully organized to ensure all new international students are well settled in, maintaining balance between fun stuff and more serious information. It is impressive how the systems work like a well-oiled machine; connecting the student to the academic side of life, career central and the social life.

I’m happy I chose to study MA International Development at UEA. The School of International Development in particular was recently voted among the best in the UK for development studies. Being a national from Kenya, this ranking continuously reinforces confidence in my employability prospects in the world of development, or what is commonly known here as Life After DEV. I was lucky to be among the outstanding scholars selected for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship. UEA endeavours to support development interventions across the globe. This forms the foundation in which UEA partners with the Chevening Secretariat – Foreign and Commonwealth office to identify and enroll remarkable students with leadership potential for postgraduate studies in the UK. Not only has Chevening given my CV a breath of life, it has also opened a whole new world of endless opportunities. Meeting students from all over the globe has certainly enhanced my culinary experiences, geographical knowledge as well expanded my bank of friends. Studying at UEA and applying for the Chevening scholarship are the best decisions I’ve ever made. Choose UEA!

LuannaLuanna, Brazil – MSc Climate Change and International Development

I took the MSc in Climate Change and International Development at UEA. My choice was mostly based on UEA reputation for Climate Change and DEV, especially its connection with the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. The experience in UEA surpassed all my expectations both personally and academically. Professors are really, really accessible and always happy to give you personal attention in whatever you may need. The Careers Centre is incredibly useful. They offer services like coaching, mentoring and one-to-one sessions. Besides, Norwich is a great city to live. Everything you may need is in a walking or cycling distance. I would recommend UEA to any Brazilian looking for a complete change in educational system mindset and a great British experience.

During the course, I was under the Chevening Scholarships programme. Chevening Scholarships are the UK governments global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. The Chevening programme supports outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at UK universities. It runs annually and besides covering tuition fees, flight costs and a monthly stipend, we become part of a global network of scholars. I would deeply encourage Brazilians planning to study at UEA to apply for it.

$ambassador-nameSamuel, Nigeria – MSc Economics

I searched for about two years to find an outstanding world-class institute of higher learning that is well known for research and development as well as conductive learning. I became attracted to UEA due to its well-known leading stance in research and development in the UK and on a global scale, as well as its high student experience rating. Studying at UEA has been a life changing opportunity for me. The environment is serene, clean and perfect for learning. At UEA, the students are the focus, they are the King and the staff help you to succeed. The social life is engaging, no matter where you come from, there are social events cutting across all spheres of life and you can attend the ones that suit your needs. Apart from your academic life, you can also develop your talents in music, broadcasting, inventing, sports etc. The university has all the facilities needed to aid you toward ‘world class’ success.

Norwich is a renowned city located in the east of England, about one hour from Cambridge and two hours from London by train. It has a diverse and multicultural population and no matter where you come from, there is always a place to shop for your indigenous foods and materials. The people are friendly, honest and respectful. Norwich is beautiful, well planned and structured. In a nutshell, UEA has transformed and changed my life for the better; it’s been wonderful studying in one of the best universities in the world.

The Chevening Journey to me has been a wholesome experience. Aside from giving me the peace of mind to focus on my studies, I now have over one thousand professional connections with fellow Chevening scholars all around the world and part of a strong and respected alumni in my country. Chevening has put me at the forefront of my career development.

Annie-Flora, Ghana – MA Media & International Development

Choosing to pursue my postgraduate degree at UEA is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was able to find the right course (Media and International Development) to suit my career ambition, the application process was not cumbersome, and communication with UEA from my country till my arrival at school was frequent and effective. My experience at UEA has been awesome! The Lecturers are well experienced and highly competitive in their fields, and are always ready to give you their undivided attention when the need arises. The school has got state of the art facilities to aid students in their research and study experience during their academic journey. There’s a 24-hour library, a sports park with different sports societies to help keep you fit, affordable accommodation, and a Career Centre to guide students in making good career choices; I like the idea that the school is not only concerned about the academic life of students but also about their post-academic life (careers). UEA is located in the city of Norwich, which is one of the most beautiful and safest cities in the UK.

My Chevening experience at the UEA thus far has been much more than I expected. Coming here, I read about the breath-taking campus, the fact that the law school is in the Top 10 in the UK and that UEA has consistently ranked at the top of national surveys for student satisfaction. But being here and experiencing it all is so much more than the words can communicate. From the inception, my contacts at UEA have been very responsive; acknowledging and addressing my queries usually within a day. I've met with my academic adviser numerous times as I navigate the wide selection of module choices; and I've always been welcomed into her office. UEA provides a number of activities to support your studies and future career such as seminars on preparing coursework and invaluable employability workshops that I have already taken advantage of. Not to mention the numerous societies and sports clubs, state of the art sports facility and on-campus entertainment venues (pub, restaurant, nightclub). The Chevening Scholars at UEA are an incredible mix of talented people. The Chevening Secretariat has been very supportive in helping us to begin this journey. It helps to have a community of Scholars to share your experiences with, discuss ideas and find solutions. The connections and friendships that I have already made through the opportunities provided by UEA and Chevening are priceless.
