Social Programme

Outside of the taught programmes, we offer social and cultural excursions and activities, giving you time to relax between classes while expanding your knowledge of the region and experiencing British culture along the way.


Inclusive social activities

All of our summer courses will include the following activities:

  • A welcome event to introduce you to your course, the academic content, and your new home-away-from-home.

  • Tours of UEA's beautiful campus and the bustling city of Norwich, led by our amazing Student Ambassadors.

  • A farewell event to summarise your learning outcomes and congratulate you with a certificate for successfully completing the course.

Additional social activities

UEA is conveniently located in one of the most culturally and historically rich parts of the UK. Not only is Norwich on your doorstep, but you are also only 1 hour away from the beautiful North Norfolk coastline, 1.5 hours from the historic city of Cambridge, and 2 hours from the UK's capital city London; all accessible by public transport. Whatever your interests, there is always something to do.

Additional social activities that can be purchased by Summer University participants will be advertised soon.

Explore the city of Norwich

There is always something to do in the City of Stories:

  • Visit Norwich Castle and Norwich Cathedral, both built in the 11th century.

  • Go shopping along medieval cobbled streets in the Lanes, or browse one of the largest and oldest open-air markets in the country.

  • Have a pint or indulge in delicious cuisines from all over the world in some of the city's many pubs, restaurants, and cafes.

  • Go bowling, visit a classic British arcade, or even try your hand at axe throwing.

  • Take in a show at one of Norwich's theatres, or watch the newest summer blockbuster at the cinema.

  • Walk along the picturesque River Wensum.

Journey outside of Norwich and experience all that the wider county of Norfolk has to offer:

Visit to Cambridge

Take in the stunning city of Cambridge:

  • Get inspired by the many fascinating museums and art galleries, such as the Fitzwilliam, Kettle's Yard and the Museum of Zoology;

  • Admire the beautiful architecture and majestic college buildings, such as the iconic King's College Chapel;

  • Punt along the River Cam and learn about the city's exciting and sometimes spooky history;

  • Spend your day shopping in Cambridge Market or in one of several shopping malls.

Visit to London

Visit the UK's iconic and abundant capital city:

  • Tour numerous famous landmarks, such as Tower Bridge, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace;

  • Take a ride on the London Eye and see the city's incredible skyline;

  • Visit one of the city's fantastic museums and art galleries, from the British Museum to the Tate Modern;

  • Catch a matinee theatre performance in the West End;

  • Spend your day shopping in iconic districts like Covent Garden, Borough Market, or Brick Lane;

  • Enjoy an oasis of nature by visiting one of several city parks or the immaculate Kew Gardens.
