Why choose Ryukoku

With its roots dating from 1639, Ryukoku University is one of the oldest Universities in Japan.

Founded on the principles of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, the University today has ten undergraduate faculties ranging from the Humanities to the Natural Sciences. Boasting a student population of approximately 20,000 spread over three unique, attractive and accessible campuses in the ancient capital of Kyoto and neighbouring Shiga, the university continues to preserve the past while at the same time press the boundaries of knowledge into the future.

Kyoto, the former capital of Japan, is the heart of Japanese culture and politics. It is unique within Japan as it was virtually untouched during World War II, leaving a myriad of temples, shrines and castles intact.

Exchange Students shall receive priority for placement in one of two international student dormitories, Ryukoku International House and Mitra-kan, which are both conveniently located only a few minutes on foot from Fukakusa Campus
