Alex Cole, Head of Global Programmes and Study Abroad 


  • Alexandra Cole - Head of Global Programmes & Study Abroad
    Alex's focus involves engaging all services of the University in the strategic direction of UEA’s study abroad programmes, developing initiatives to increase outbound mobility, embedding an ethos of widening access to mobility and ensuring all students feel part of the Study Abroad Community. Her interests involve increasing opportunities for an international experience and developing programmes to enhance existing exchange partnerships, currently leading on the University’s implementation of Turing and Aurora Alliance outbound mobility funding. She chairs the Study Abroad Business Continuity Group, is secretary for the Mobility Advisory Group, sits on the Steering Group for Aurora Alliance Borderless Learning and co-convenes the Aurora Mobility and Recognition Working Group.
  • Olivia Burns - Outgoing Study Abroad Adviser
    I graduated from UEA with a master’s in Education and International Development in 2020. Prior to this I spent a year working at a university in Hong Kong and studied abroad at Northern Arizona University. During my time abroad I was able to explore the USA and parts of Asia and Australia. My international experiences have made me passionate about student mobility and I’m excited to support and work with our students in making the most of the opportunities they have to go abroad.
  • Céline De Oliveira - Incoming Study Abroad Coordinator
    During her studies, Céline supported international students at her home university in France. Céline brings personal Erasmus experience to her role, having studied abroad in Portugal, and is dedicated to international student mobility.
  • Georgia Evison - Incoming Study Abroad Administrator
    Georgia recently joined UEA as part of the Incoming team and is eager to facilitate students to have a great study abroad experience here in her home city of Norwich. Whilst studying in Manchester, she completed an Erasmus year in Seville, Spain, before working for the British Council in Madrid.
  • Yasmin Gorman - Outgoing Study Abroad Administrator
    Yasmin is one of our recent Translation graduates who is fluent in Spanish as well as having obtained qualifications in Greek, French, Arabic and Japanese. Despite starting very recently, Yasmin brings a variety of experiences from her time studying abroad in Madrid and is ready to support students in making the best of the opportunities ahead. In her spare time, she does a little freelance translation and English language coaching online to students in Latin America and Europe.
  • Brittany Hopkins - Study Abroad and Exchange Partnerships Officer
    Brittany obtained her degree in International Studies in the Netherlands and spent her semester abroad in Québec, Canada. Before joining the team in 2018, she worked as a student consultant with an intergovernmental organisation. Brittany is responsible for co-delivering UEA’s global inbound exchange recruitment activity and in-country partnerships liaison, to support UEA’s exchange partnership engagement and the University’s study abroad degree programmes. This includes regular attendance at study abroad fairs and conferences.
  • Amy Humphreys - Study Abroad and Exchange Partnerships Coordinator
    Having spent two years working with incoming Study Abroad students, Amy has moved into the Partnerships team and is enjoying learning more about global education. She is responsible for supporting the Partnerships team with agreement negotiations, helping recruitment activity, and promoting our partner universities. Amy’s favourite part of her role is meeting colleagues from partner universities when they visit UEA. She continues to support Study Abroad students in her work with the Study Abroad Buddy Scheme.
  • Clementine Jones - European Partnerships Manager
    Clementine has been involved in the Erasmus programme for over 20 years and has acquired a wealth of knowledge on EU regulations and contract negotiations. In her current role, Clem is responsible for European partnership development and European Study Abroad agreement negotiations, as well as managing the UEA Erasmus+ KA103 contract and compliance on behalf of the University. Her work on post-Brexit Britain, commencing before the referendum, has cemented her position as UEA’s Erasmus expert. She is a HEURO committee member and was awarded the status of Erasmus Minister by the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators in 2016.
  • Rachel Jones - Outgoing Study Abroad Adviser (Europe and Latin America)
    Rachel obtained a Masters degree in Applied Translation Studies from UEA and studied abroad in France and Spain. Before joining our team, she gained work experience in multilingual communications and overseas events administration at an NGO. Rachel is passionate about encouraging students to have the experience of living and studying abroad.
  • Annie Kay - Study Abroad Team Leader
    Annie works with the Study Abroad Team to support both incoming and outgoing students at UEA. She lived in Germany and Egypt after completing an Erasmus year in Berlin, and is enthusiastic about helping students experience the benefits of studying abroad.
  • Angela Murgatroyd - Study Abroad Finance and Funding Coordinator
    Angela enjoys supporting our outgoing students, and has specific responsibility for our European and South American placements. She has lived and worked in Germany for many years and has spent time travelling in Australia and New Zealand. Angela is a keen supporter of student mobility and enjoys advising students.
  • Brook Newton - Mobility Data and Systems Officer
    Brook has lived in Canada, Germany, and Australia, and speaks French and German. He is responsible for technical and data support for the office, including maintaining our partnership and data management systems.
  • Emma Pinder - Outgoing Study Abroad Coordinator
    Emma has been part of the Study Abroad team for over 7.5 years. She graduated from UEA with a degree in Ecology, and brings personal study abroad experience in Canada to the role. Emma has travelled to North & South America, Africa, New Zealand and Europe, and is passionate about encouraging students to broaden their horizons and promoting cultural integration.
  • Lewis Sillett - Global Programmes Officer
    Throughout university and since graduating, Lewis has been involved in establishing links with International Higher Education Institutions. He has led and delivered bespoke summer school programmes and operationally managed a strategic partnership whilst working for Coventry University. Having lived and studied abroad in The Netherlands, Lewis is passionate about students receiving a positive international experience. In the International Programmes Team, Lewis supports the delivery of UEA’s Summer Programmes together with customised short-term courses. These programmes provide students with a taster to studying at UEA and encourage them to select UEA, as their future pathway.
  • Jess Thomas - Global Programmes and Projects Administrator
    Graduating from UEA with a degree in Film and Television Studies, Jess studied abroad for a semester at Deakin University’s Melbourne campus. Jess recently joined the UEA Global Programmes and Study Abroad Team as the Global Programmes and Projects Administrator. Jess will be supporting Lewis with UEA’s short courses, including both the taster days and the summer programme. The focus of Jess's work will be supporting outgoing short course study abroad students.
  • Katrien Verbruggen - Study Abroad and Exchange Partnerships Manager
    Originally from Belgium, Katrien has studied and worked in a number of countries. She holds Masters Degrees in Economic Sciences and Languages, and has been part of the international mobility community since leaving high school. Before moving to the UK, Katrien worked in international development. In her current role, she manages the student exchange programme, working closely with our Schools of Study and partner universities.

    Emma Waters - Widening Access & Student Mobility Support Officer
    A UEA graduate, Emma completed her study abroad programme in America. In her current role, she aims to support students from a diverse range of backgrounds to ensure all students have the opportunity to study abroad and can reap the benefits of such an experience.
