In 2012-13, responding to a suggestion from two students, UEA Accommodation trialled a Green Flat in residences. This option brought together students who shared an interest in sustainable living and environmental issues.
Since then, the scheme has grown, and in 2015-16 approximately 100 students live in Green Flats across campus. Green Flats were provided with a hamper of items, such as laundry ‘eggs’ and eco-friendly washing-up liquid, designed to promote an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
It is our hope that in 2016-17 even more students will choose the Green Flat option, and that they will engage in activities which will help to encourage others to join them in living more sustainably.
We aim to have at least one Green Flat in each type of residence, subject to demand. The cost of a room in a Green Flat is the same as other rooms of the same type (i.e. En Suite Campus rooms cost £138.46 per week, whether or not they are in Green Flats). You will have the option to complete a Green Flat application form when you apply.
Green Flat accommodation is available to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. In the 2015-16 academic year, 96 Undergraduate students and 8 Postgraduate students are living in Green Flats.
The bar chart below shows the number of students from each School of Study living in Green Flats for the 2015-16 academic year.
