If you are an international student, and do not already have UK immigration permission that will cover your course , you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to apply for a Student visa.
UEA will start to issue CAS from June onwards to students with unconditional offers who have paid their deposit.
This page provides you with more information on the UEA CAS process, and how to apply for your Student visa.
What is a CAS?
A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is an electronic record, created by UEA and held by the UK Visas and Immigration service (UKVI). The record shows UKVI that UEA considers you to be a genuine student and that you have been accepted on a university course in the UK. You will need a CAS from UEA to apply for a Student Route visa. If you’re a visiting or exchange student, you can find out more information on your visa requirements here.
Your CAS confirms:
A 14-digit CAS number (which you will need to submit on your Student Visa application).
UEA Sponsor Licence number and address.
Your personal details and course information (including start and end dates).
The total tuition fees you owe.
The passport number you will need to use when applying for your Student Visa.
Your qualifications and proof that you have met English Language requirements for your course.
UKVI will assess your CAS information when deciding whether to issue you with a Student Visa.

What are the requirements for a CAS?
We will contact you about starting the CAS process on our online system once we have received your deposit and you have accepted your unconditional offer. You can accept your offer through our website for postgraduate courses or in the UCAS Hub for undergraduate courses. You can track the progress of your CAS by signing into the CAS Shield platform. Once you have logged in, you can view any documents or information we require from you.
As part of the process, you will:
Be required to upload all of the documents you will use for your Student visa application; this will include your academic certificate(s), proof of English language proficiency, copy of passport and any previous visas or visa refusals.
You will be asked to provide information about how you are funding your studies in the UK. This is to make sure you will meet the Financial Requirements for your Student visa application. To meet the financial requirements, you need to demonstrate you can fund living expenses of £9,207 plus your total unpaid tuition fees. The total tuition fee for your chosen course can be found here. You can find more information about the Student route financial requirements here and on the UKCISA website.
You may be required to carry out a pre-CAS interview. These interviews are designed to ensure that you are well prepared for your studies in the UK and that UEA sponsors only genuine students.
Once all checks are satisfactorily completed, we will issue your CAS by email. You will use this in your Student visa application.
Remember, the information you provide will be shared with UKVI as part of the Student visa process, and must be accurate, so please check everything thoroughly. Your visa application may be affected by any inaccurate information.
When will I receive my CAS?
We cannot advise exactly how long it will take to receive a CAS, as this depends upon numerous factors.
Please note that the steps in the CAS request process are checks we are required to carry out by the Home Office. We cannot issue any student a CAS until we are completely satisfied that Student Route requirements are met.
How do I apply for my Student visa?
UKVI can take several weeks to process a visa application.
We recommend you submit your Student visa as soon as you receive your UEA CAS.
This will minimise the risk of you being unable to join your course due to a delay in receiving your visa. You must ensure you only travel to the UK within the validity dates on your visa.
You can find more information about applying for a Student visa on our pages and on the UKCISA website.
