Tripping the light fantastic

A huge spinning globe, mock volcanic eruptions and giant illuminated moths lit up campus during Wonderglow Festival in September, part of UEA's new Welcome Week.

Five-thousand new students were greeted by a trail of light installations, interactive sculptures, live graffiti, mock volcanic eruptions and colossal structures featuring sound, flames and water. The installations lit up UEA like never before, all in aid of welcoming a new cohort of fresh-faced UEA students in an all-important COVID-secure way.

And the jewel in the crown? Gaia. Seven meters in diameter, Luke Jerram’s immense inflatable earth made its home in the tail end of the Sainsbury Centre, attracting a constant audience for each night of its reign.

Here we look at some of the best pictures from the three-night extravaganza.
