My name is Minh Anh Ta, but my friends call me Mia. I study BSc Economics in the School of Economics (ECO) at UEA, and I am from Hanoi, Vietnam.
Anyone who wants to study at a university, looks for a university with good rankings and reputable academics. But for me, besides all these ratings including the Teaching Excellence Framework and the Research Excellence Framework, I wanted to choose a university where I could fully enjoy my student-life, a university that I could call home and I could feel like I belong there, and most importantly - no matter who I am or where I am from, I will be treasured. I chose UEA and choosing UEA has served me very well. UEA uses new teaching methods and methodologies which are influenced by research in education as well as making sure the learning resources are more accessible and practical for everyone.
UEA has offered me endless opportunities to explore and to develop myself and get prepared for my future. It has given me a clear guideline of how to change from “a kid who knows nothing” to “a person with a dream and passion for Data Analysis”. My education and work experience at UEA has been very rich, including positions as Interns and Research Assistants in many departments at UEA and ECO, as a Student Ambassador, as a member of many student and School committees, and as a valuable member of the ECO community. This experience has built a strong foundation for me in the competitive job market and helped me go further.
My time at UEA is even more valuable when I include my social life in the picture. I have had a chance to befriend many great people who are always by my side and to support me. Besides my colleagues and my peers, I also have a lot of friends who are, surprisingly, my lecturers! Let me tell you a fun fact, lecturers at ECO are very friendly and approachable. I sometimes meet them while buying cookies from cafes on campus, like at Café 57. I do feel part of the School not just as a student but as an equal to my lecturers.
Having had a chance to work closely with UEA staff in different sectors, I can see how dedicated everyone is in their respective roles to provide support for students. I can never forget my supervisors at ECO who were replying to my email at 6 am on a normal Saturday!
For me, UEA is not only about a great academic experience and developing opportunities, but also it is about meeting great people. I can tell you that UEA is one of the greatest choices I have ever made.
