My name is Enxi Liu, and I am from Jiangxi, China. I am a third-year student on BSc Economics in the School of Economics at UEA.

I came to UEA as a direct second year entrant and I have spent nearly two years at UEA now. UEA and Norwich have given me lots of nice surprises and I feel at home here. As an international student, I wanted to choose a university to study at with a good reputation and with good student satisfaction, and to live in a city that is safe. I chose UEA because the School of Economics at UEA is a high-ranking School in the UK, giving me a first-class education in economics, and Norwich is recognised as one of the top safest cities in the UK. I am very happy with my choice of university and city.

During my time at UEA, I have been encouraged by all the lecturers to explore new ideas, and the community here has made me feel more confident in studying economics. All the lecturers are happy to help and to spend extra hours after classes to answer any questions. They are very patient and are happy to explain the lectures and questions in different ways. I would never forget how my lecturer Dr Rui Silva helped me every step of the way with Stata (a specialised statistical software used in 2nd year econometric module), which has helped with my skills and confidence to analyse data.

There are plenty employability workshops to help with interview and CV writing skills, as well as many opportunities to apply for internships. I applied for several roles, and I received feedback after my interviews from the interview team. I am now working as an International Ambassador for UEA.

I have made many friends from different countries and cultures, which has opened my eyes on how diverse the world we live in is, and what the true meaning of studying in a different country is. It is not just the country and the city we travel to; but it is also about all the people we meet from other countries. The friends I have made are going to be my friends for ever and they have encouraged me to be better and more confident in everything that I do.

There are many social and sporting clubs at UEA. I joined the Chinese society (UEA CSSA), and I have participated in organising some activities for the society which then helped me to gain work experience on how to plan an event with very large number of participants. One of my favourite activities to do at UEA is to go on the weekend one-day trips organised by the Students’ Union (SU). The trips they organise are to historical and interesting cities and usually include a relaxing walk in the countryside with nice views. UEA has given me a lot of nice surprises and my experience as an international student has been so much more amazing because of Norwich, UEA, and ECO.
