My UEA Story: Adele

PHILOSOPHY

I studied Philosophy.

After graduating, I took up an internship with REEP, the Religions and Environment Education Programme.  Part of the project involved travelling to Marrakech, working on a project at the Le Foyer Soroptomist School for Young Girls.

The aim of the project is to break down barriers between cultures, demolishing the sense of "otherness", and to form strong relationships with the women and girls in the institution. Future visits will focus on general plant management and teaching the girls how to sustainably tend the soil in a very extreme climate. Language is also important in this project, and so there is important focus on supporting the learning of English, and particularly French, which is the language used for teaching in higher education. It was an incredible experience to be introduced to such inspirational young women, and also to the women who support them in their education, and to involve myself in fundraising ideas to ensure the continued work with Le Foyer.
