Overview Overview

The Faculty of Social Sciences conducts high quality, rigorous research across a wide range of social science and professional subject areas.

Broadly speaking, our internationally important research involves the study of society and the manner in which people behave and impact on the world around us. We achieve this through obtaining funding from a range of organisations such as the UK research councils, UK and European Government, charities and commercial organisations.

The Faculty provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for social science research for both academic colleagues and postgraduate research students. This is recognised in the most recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 where we have been ranked 10th in the UK for the quality of our research output and 21st overall amongst all mainstream British institutions. The results show that more than 82 per cent of UEA research is classified as either ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’, confirming UEA’s position as a premier research institution making a substantial impact on the global challenges facing society, and also recognised through the continued support of our research funders.
