We are a thriving and expanding research community with full-time and part-time MPhil (research master's) and PhD (doctoral) students from both the UK and overseas.
Our research has a broad focus on three main areas: Cognition and Individual Behaviour, Social Psychology, and Developmental and Relationship Psychology. For further information on potential supervisors' research interests please see individual academics' pages.
The School of Psychology has enjoyed success in the Research Excellence Framework (2014); all of the research submitted was judged to be of international quality, with over 80% rated as world leading or internationally excellent.
The School of Psychology currently offer the following research degrees:
PhD students are registered for a maximum 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time. Assessment is based on the production of a thesis of a maximum 100,000 words and oral examination.
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
MPhil students are registered for a maximum 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time. The degree is awarded on the basis of a maximum 65,000 word thesis and oral examination.
