"UK and EU: to stay or to leave?" An event for schools, 7 March 2016 "UK and EU: to stay or to leave?" An event for schools, 7 March 2016

Sixth-formers spent the day finding out more about the EU and the UK's awkward relationship with it, at a day-long event organised by UEA Professor Hussein Kassim as part of the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) 'UK in a Changing Europe' initiative. After a session on what the EU does and how it works, and a talk by Professor Anand Menon, King's College London and Director of the programmes on the significance of the coming referendum, pupils studied news reports and speeches on the key themes. This preparation readied them to put their questions to Cllr John Cowan, a pro-EU campaigner, and to Mr David Moreland, the UK Independent Party's candidate for Crime and Police Commissioner, in a Q & A session that provided the culmination of the event. The event, held at EPIC Studios in Norwich, was attended by more than one hundred sixth-formers from nine schools in Norwich and beyond.
