Members of the UEA ABIRA team, led by Dr Nicola Hancock, and including Dr Niamh Kennedy, Dr Celia Clarke and Professor Valerie Pomeroy, are working to develop a device to assist in the rehabilitation of walking after stroke.
As part of this work, the team applied for and won a much sought after place on the UK Design Council's Design Leadership Programme. This prestigious programme is aimed at helping businesses, universities and the public sector to use design to innovate and grow.
The partnership is enabling leading academics to work with design specialists as they take their upright rehabilitation device concept from idea to prototype and beyond. The work has been highly regarded by the Design Council, has progressed to the next funding stage, and has been used as an exemplar of the Council’s work with UK Universities.
