Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor Training

Practice Supervisor

A Practice Supervisor is a registered health or social care professional (e.g., nurse, midwife, nursing associate, or other regulated professional) who supports and supervises learners enrolled on a nursing or midwifery programme while they are on placement in a practice learning environment.

They guide, observe and oversee learners' performance in practice, confirm attendance and may contribute to the assessment process, but they do not formally assess learners for progression.

Practice Assessor

A Practice Assessor is an NMC-registered nurse or midwife who assesses and confirms a learner’s achievement of proficiencies in relation to a defined period of practice learning.

A Practice Assessor makes objective, evidence-based decisions regarding a learner's proficiency and professional attributes, confirming that a learner has met (or failed to meet) the practice-based learning outcomes against which they are being assessed and communicating with Academic Assessors to inform progression decisions.
