This programme presents the remarkable range and imagination found in nonprofessional filmmaking, drawing from the historic collection of the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers. Unlike home movies, which often preserve intimate family moments, these amateur club films were made to be shown to a public audience. With their bold storytelling, humour and experimentation, these films showcase the skill and talent of all involved and a very social way of filmmaking.
The screening offers a rare chance to see these films as they were meant to be experienced - on the big screen, in the company of others and on film. Together, they form a lively social portrait of East Anglia’s grassroots film culture.
The films will be presented by Dr Nick Warr, EAFA’s Academic Director.
